It doesn't have to be now. A fitting name for an album that lay dormant for 6 years. Life got in the way; other musical projects, other 'money suckers', moving cities, big plans, personal insecurities, personal disasters, a wedding and a house renovation, and it just didn't happen.
But here we are. 'It Doesn't Have To Be Now'. It's out for you all to finally listen to. No lavish fanfare, no flags flying or bells tolling, just a humble little album of songs I wrote and recorded some time ago. I wrote every song, sang the melodies, layered the harmonies, and created a whole band of 'me'. (I jokingly say it was the most dysfunctional band I've every been in, but that's not true.) Bass, drums, guitars, more little vintage keyboards than you can poke a stick at, some experimentation with recording techniques (let's see if this will work!) and the acoustic relationship between an electric guitar and its amp (enough for a solo singer/songwriter record anyway).
It was masterfully mixed by two good friends of mine, Benjamin Lancaster and Scott Mullane. Their individual approaches to mixing for each song were just perfect and just served, well, the songs, really well! I learned a lot about mixing and recording along the way.
So please, take some time to get into these songs. Listen to the melodies, the arrangements, recurring motifs, fun little crusty organ drum beats, etc.
